Receipts are the least interesting document in a business and the one that causes the most trouble when it is missing. A client who paid cash and wants proof, a customer claiming an expense, an auditor asking what a deposit was for. All of it is easy if a receipt exists and tedious if one does not.

Why the numbering matters

Sequential numbering with your own prefix means every payment received has exactly one document, that document has a unique reference, and a gap in the sequence is a question you can actually answer.

A receipt normally closes out an invoice, and it shares the client list and business profile with the invoice and quote generators. Every receipt lands in your documents list as paid, so the record exists the moment you save it. If you take payments in person, the document scanner handles the paper receipts coming the other way, and bookkeeping is where both sides of the money end up.
